BraceletsI currently do two types of braiding and weaving to make bracelets. Both
are made entirely by hand, using only a bench vise as a third hand.
For multi-strand braids, the lengths of wire are folded in half, held in the vise, and braided
in the desired pattern without securing the wires in the vise at any other point. Flat
weaving, on the other hand, requires repositioning the piece in the vise for each repetition of the pattern.
The resulting patterns are reminiscent of Celtic knotwork and both types have also long been in
the repertoire of "fancy" sailor's knots and are variations of "sennit braids." |
